Course Information
Course Description
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common conditions affecting aging men and can significantly impact urinary function, quality of life, and overall health. This course provides an overview of the causes, risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, and management of BPH in geriatric patients. Learners will explore how prostate enlargement contributes to lower urinary tract symptoms, review common diagnostic approaches, and examine both nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment options. The course also discusses medical therapies, surgical interventions, and emerging treatment approaches used to manage symptoms and prevent complications. Emphasis is placed on the medical assistant's role in patient education, symptom assessment, care coordination, and support of treatment adherence for older adults experiencing urinary symptoms.
