Course Description
Children and adolescents frequently experience a variety of illnesses, developmental conditions, and injuries that require timely assessment, patient education, and supportive care. This course provides an overview of common pediatric health concerns encountered in ambulatory and primary care settings, including sore throats, ear infections, urinary tract infections, sinusitis, chicken pox, hand, foot, and mouth disease, parasitic diseases, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, hearing and vision concerns, childhood obesity, poisoning, and common childhood injuries.
Learners will examine signs and symptoms, prevention strategies, screening recommendations, treatment considerations, and referral needs. Emphasis is placed on the medical assistant’s role in supporting pediatric patients and caregivers through education, observation, early recognition, and coordinated care.

- Recognize developmental conditions and disabilities that may require screening, monitoring, or referral.
