Course Description

Peripartum depression (PPD) is a serious mood disorder that can occur during pregnancy and up to one year after childbirth. This course explores the signs, symptoms, risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment options associated with PPD, as well as related perinatal mental health conditions.

Learners will examine the differences between the baby blues and peripartum depression, review commonly used screening tools, and identify ways medical assistants can support affected patients. Through practical guidance and evidence-based information, participants will strengthen their ability to recognize warning signs, listen empathetically, encourage appropriate follow-up care, and contribute to improved outcomes for both parents and infants.
