Course Description
Stimulant use, misuse, and abuse continue to rise among the general population and among individuals of reproductive age. This course examines commonly used stimulants, including caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, and prescription stimulant medications, and reviews their potential effects on maternal health, pregnancy, and postpartum outcomes. Learners will explore the systemic health risks associated with stimulant use, the importance of early screening during prenatal care, and the value of empathetic, nonjudgmental communication.

The course also highlights the role of multidisciplinary care teams in supporting pregnant and parenting individuals affected by stimulant use. Practical strategies for risk reduction and coordinated care are emphasized to help improve health outcomes for patients and their families.
