Course Information
Course Description
Stroke is a leading cause of disability and a medical emergency that requires rapid recognition and intervention. This course explores the causes, risk factors, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term management of stroke in older adults. Learners will examine the differences between ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, recognize common warning signs and symptoms, and review evidence-based approaches to acute treatment, including thrombolytic therapy and mechanical thrombectomy. The course also addresses stroke rehabilitation, secondary prevention strategies, and the interdisciplinary care team’s role in supporting recovery. Emphasis is placed on the medical assistant's role in recognizing stroke symptoms, supporting timely care, educating patients, and assisting with long-term management and rehabilitation efforts.
