This webinar reviews current trends for cannabis legalization and epidemiology of cannabis use. Different forms of cannabis and the marketing of these products is discussed.

Course Description
Cannabis use is becoming more common as legalization expands and new products become increasingly available. This course explores current trends in cannabis use, the different forms of cannabis and cannabinoid products, and their physiologic effects through cannabinoid receptor activity. Learners will review current evidence regarding maternal, fetal, and neonatal risks associated with cannabis use during the perinatal period, including potential impacts on offspring health.

The course also examines patient-centered counseling strategies, emphasizing respectful communication, harm reduction principles, and evidence-based education. Practical tools and resources are provided to help health care professionals support informed decision-making and promote safer outcomes for pregnant and parenting individuals and their families.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to: 
  • Describe the physiological effects of cannabis use and the associated maternal and neonatal risks during the perinatal period.
  • Identify effective patient counseling approaches, including harm reduction strategies, for individuals who use cannabis during the perinatal period.
