Course Description: Assessment-Based Certificate Program in Allied Health Education (ABC-AHE)
The AAMA Assessment-Based Certificate Program in Allied Health Education (ABC-AHE) provides comprehensive education in three key topics:
- The Principles of Adult Learning
- Effective Classroom Instruction
- Assessment, Evaluation, and Other Aspects of Allied Health Education
This certificate program was previously titled Assessment-Based Certificate in Education Program.
All the following three courses, and a final assessment, must be completed to earn the certificate:
Course 1: The Principles of Adult Learning
- Module 1: Introduction to Adult Learning
This module will help you understand the basics of adult learning and how that knowledge can be beneficial for allied health educators. You will be introduced to allied health education, educational theory, and how adults learn.
- Module 2: Instructional Design
This module will help you understand the instructional design process and learning domains and how the knowledge can be beneficial for educators.
- Module 3: Learning Techniques and Technology
This module will introduce you to techniques that can be used to increase knowledge acquisition and retention for learners, as well as how technology can be used effectively with the adult learner.
Course 2: Effective Classroom Instruction
- Module 1: Designing for the Classroom
This module will help you understand the basics of course and lesson design and how that knowledge can be beneficial for allied health educators. You will be introduced to approaches to course and lesson design, educational theories that may influence your approach to teaching in the classroom, and rubric design that guides teaching as well as assessment.
- Module 2: Teaching Methods for the Classroom
This module will help you understand teaching methods used in the classroom setting. You will be introduced to classroom settings and methods used for teaching in the classroom. This module also covers tips and techniques that can be used to make classroom teaching more effective.
- Module 3: Online Learning and the Virtual Classroom
This module presents information on online learning focusing on the virtual classroom. It reviews the challenges of online learning and the virtual classroom. It describes teaching methods and software platforms that can be used for the virtual classroom. It also describes how to plan and prepare for a virtual training event.
Course 3: Assessment, Evaluation, and Other Aspects of Allied Health Education
- Module 1: Assessment and Evaluation
This module will help you understand the important role that assessment and evaluation play in education. You will be introduced to the concept of formative versus summative assessment, how to create an assessment, and methodologies for evaluating a program or course.
- Module 2: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
This module will help you understand the range of diverse students you will see in today’s classroom, the importance of equity, and how to create an inclusive classroom environment.
- Module 3: Communication Skills for Educators
This module will help you develop your skills as an educator in three important areas: managing a classroom, communicating effectively with students, and delivering feedback.
A practice exam is included for each course. The final assessment must be passed with a score of 70% or higher in order to earn the CEU credit. The final assessment is timed, allowing users 150 minutes to complete the test. This is a closed-book test, with no option for going back into the course once the test has been started.
Two retakes on the final assessment are allowed. Participants must wait a minimum of 14 days from a failing score to retake the final assessment.
This certificate program has been approved for 27 CEUs G.
The time allotted for completion of the Certificate Program is 90 days.

ABC Allied Health Education Participant Manual
