Course Overview
Accurate and thorough patient records are the responsibility of every health care professional. Study facts on e-prescribing and pay-for-performance systems to gain a glimpse of ways that order entry is constantly changing.

Those who are students in a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited medical assisting program at any point in time are not eligible to participate in the ABR-OE program.

Those who at any point in time have held the CMA (AAMA) credential (or its predecessor credential, CMA) are not eligible for the ABR-OE.

Course Description
Accurate order entry and documentation support safe patient care, regulatory compliance, and timely reimbursement. In this course, you will explore the medical assistant’s role in maintaining complete and reliable health records. You will examine how ICD-10-CM and CPT codes connect diagnoses with services, how pay-for-performance programs use quality measures, and how electronic prescribing can improve medication safety and affordability.

You will also review practical steps for processing laboratory, radiology, prescription, and other clinical orders. Throughout the course, you will learn to recognize potential errors, clarify incomplete information, and follow up appropriately to help ensure that orders and results reach the correct provider.
